Exploitation of the tropics is a worldwide known problem, especially concerning timber extraction. Counteracting that, some organisations have developed principles of sustainable forest management in the tropics, which are applied in Suriname. This paper, published in “Forest Ecology and Management”, is the product of long-term investigations and examines the measures efficacy based on regional mammal diversity and composition. For this, areas inside and areas neighbouring concessions under sustainable logging and conventional logging were compared to each other.
