Review article on environmental impacts of mountain biking

29.04.2023

The literature review, published in "Global Ecology and Conservation", compiles the state of knowledge on the impacts of mountain biking on soil, vegetation, and wildlife and discusses potential changes with increasing use of electrically assisted mountain bikes (pedelecs and e-bikes). As conventional as well as electrically assisted mountain biking is becoming increasingly popular, its impact on the environment is widely debated. Our article provides a comprehensive evidence-based foundation for the public debate, while also highlighting research gaps, especially regarding electrically assisted mountain biking.
